Luxury Hotels with Meaningful Children’s Experiences
With multi-generational travel on the rise, more and more children are hitting the roads for fun and exciting family trips. In response to this trend - hotels are increasingly offering experiences tailored to kids. While many brands are just realizing the importance of including kids in their plans, there are a few that seems to be ahead of the ballgame. We’ve rounded up 5 of our favorites that are making travel with children more fun for everyone.
Brush Creek Ranch
In the heart of southern Wyoming, lies 30,000 pristine acres of the laidback, yet luxurious, Brush Creek Ranch. Honored as the #1 Resort Hotel in the U.S. by Condé Nast Traveler and Travel & Leisure, Brush Creek Ranch embodies the true spirit of the West and offers an exceptional experience for the entire family. The Lil’ Wranglers Program at Brush Creek Ranch isn’t just about standard entertainment for the little ones, it’s about learning new skills and outdoor education. Young guests are involved with a wide array of fun dude ranch excitement, like trail adventures, ecological explorations, horseback-riding and more. Here, the focus is on getting kids unplugged and outside!
Rosewood Hotels knows the value of meaningful experiences for all guests, young and old. The luxury hotel brand recently unveiled their new kids’ club concept, Rosewood Explorer’s, at Rosewood Phuket in Thailand. This industry-leading children’s programming engages young guests through creative adventures and exploration with an emphasis on culture, heritage, and social responsibility. At the Phuket property, Explorer’s Club facilities include a children’s pool, cabanas, kids’ sun-loungers, and a vibrant indoor space with climbing walls, arts & crafts, performance stage, and reading nooks. Activities aim to connect children with the destination. In Phuket, kids can participate in clay-making of animals indigenous to the area and authentic Thai weaving, where they learn to use their arms, hands, and feet at the same time.
Four Seasons Resort Oahu at Ko Olina
The Four Seasons Oahu on the island’s rugged west coast impresses in every way. With a sparkling white sand beach, a blue lagoon and gorgeous family pool, hotel amenities are in no short supply here. Families can come together for adventure and embark on an outrigger canoe ride in the ocean, or kids can participate in engaging activities at Camp Kohola at the Hideaway, the resort’s top-notch children’s camp. Camp Kohola offers a wide array of creative, seasonal activities, like their teen-centric skateboarding camp going on this spring. Swirl is a Camp Kohola partner and one of our favorite experiences was in 2018 where young guests embarked on exciting scavenger hunts and made bird feeders for Kahumana, a local farming community organization that cares for Oahu’s most vulnerable, including homeless families, people with disabilities, and youth in need.
The Ritz-Carlton Orlando, Grande Lakes
With its close proximity to Disney, Universal Orlando, and SeaWorld, it’s no surprise the Ritz-Carlton Orlando provides a stellar experience for the kiddos. The property’s Ritz Kids program strives to cultivate curiosity and creativity through experiences based on four specific pillars: land, water, environmental responsibility, and culture. The program teaches kids about the surrounding Everglades and Grande Lakes, so they can learn about this unique destination. Through storytelling, lessons on recycling, arts and crafts, physical activities and more, young guests are inspired to stretch their minds and hearts to consider questions like “How do rivers benefit nature and humans?”, “What are seeds and how does the environment benefit from them?”, “We throw trash away every day, but where is ‘away’?”. Beyond the daily activities, the property also offers a Kids Night Out service, as well as In-Room Camping for a small fee.
Fairmont Scottsdale Princess
In addition to 5 pools family-friendly pools, water slides, and sporting activities galore, the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess has an entire Trailblazers Family Adventure Center. Here, families can engage in arts and crafts, play games, and hop aboard a virtual roller coaster or glide high in the sky with the property’s 3D Simulator. Young guests ages 5-12 can participate in the Trailblazers Kids Club. This well-designed program takes the children’s experience to another level. Each day at the kids’ club features a signature activity, with everything from nature walks and outdoor skills to meeting desert animal friends and panning for gold in true Old West fashion. Our favorite activity is Solar Day, where kids learn about solar power, make solar nature prints, and even bake solar oven S’mores! To cap it all off, the resort also offers private family portrait sessions from their on-site photographer, so guests can capture their vacation memories.
These are just a few examples of programs that are doing some fantastic things to engage kids. It is really wonderful to see these and we are looking forward to seeing more as this space expands. It’s great for kids and their families, taking travel experiences to the next level and creating memories that last a lifetime.
